En regardant les nouveautés Phildar, je suis tombée sur ce poncho, qui m'a vraiment tapé dans l'oeil. J'ai tout de suite passé ma commande, et me voilà avec un nouveau défi à relever. Si vous voulez vous laisser tenter, rendez-vous là.
J'ai reçu la laine, et elle est vraiment toute douce, et les couleurs égayent l'hiver.
Et en bonus, une nouveauté pour moi: la torsade! Je n'en ai jamais fait, il va falloir que je bosse mon sujet sur le net, si je veux réussir l'examen. J'ai donc un projet motivant pour mes vacances de Noël.

As I was browsing the new Phildar catalogue, I came accross this poncho, which really struck me. I ordered the yarn and book straight away, and here I am with a new challenge to face. If you're also tempted, go here.
I've received the yarn, and it's really soft, and the colors brighten up the winter.
And, as a bonus, there's a new technique to learn: the cable stitch! I've never done it before, so I have to work my subject on the net, if I want to pass the test. I have a motivating project for my Christmas holiday.

Ca y est, je l'ai finie!!! Malgré un couac au niveau de mes rangs de côtes, le résultat ressemble à une chaussette, ce qui est déjà pas mal! J'ai réussi à dompter le talon sans problèmes. Dans le modèle trouvé chez Tricotin, il y a 2 méthodes expliquées pour le talon, et j'ai fait la plus simple. Je recommande vraiment ce modèle qui est très bien expliqué, et qui permet de faire une chaussette toute bête, mais vraiment réussie.
That's it, I've finished it!!! Despite a little hiccup on my rib, the result looks like a sock, which is not bad! I've tammed the heel without a problem. In the Tricotin pattern, there are 2 methods for the heel, and I've used the easiest. I warmly recommend this pattern, as it is very well explained, and it becomes very easy to make a simple sock.
Pour terminer mon travail, j'ai suivi les conseils du modèle en utilisant la méthode "JSSBO" (Jeny's surprisingly stretchy bind off). Et c'est vrai que la bordure est beaucoup plus lâche qu'avec ma méthode (en plus, j'ai tendance à tricoter serré, alors je n'aurais peut-être même pas pu enfiler ma chaussette). Encore une nouvelle technique apprise!
To end my work, I followed the pattern advise, and used the JSSBO method (Jeny's surprisingly stretchy bind off). And it is surprisingly stretchy. More than my usual method (I have a tendency of knitting too tight, and I would never have been able to put my sck on otherwise). One more technique learnt!

Ce fut un merveilleux week-end, passé au marché de Noël de Chatenoy le Royal, petit village de Saône et Loire où mes parents habitent. C'est la 2ème fois que j'y participe, et même si j'ai moins vendu que l'année dernière, je me suis tout autant amusée. Il y a vraiment un bonne ambiance, avec l'inauguration au crémant de Bourgogne, et avec la fanfare qui nous amène un petit air de musique. Et bien sûr, le dimanche, la visite du Père Noël!
I've spent a wonderful week-end, at the Christmas market of Chatenoy le Royal, a small village of Saône et Loire where my parents live. This is he 2nd time I attend, and even if I've sold less than last year, I had as much fun. There is really a good atmosphere. They offer some Burgundy Cremant for the inauguration, and there's a brass band to celebrate too! And of course, on Sunday, Santa Claus paid us a visit!

J'ai commencé à en parler ici, et depuis j'ai bien avancé sur ma 1ère chaussette. Au début, ce n'est pas évident les aiguilles circulaires, mais c'est comme pour tout, il s'agit d'un coup à prendre. Et là, au bout de quelques rangs, horreur!, de nouveau ces horribles trous de chaque côté. Je suis tout de suite allée sur internet pour trouver une astuce pour ne plus avoir ces défauts. J'ai trouvé cette vidéo qui expliquait, tout simplement, comment tendre le fil (aller à 3 mins de film pour une demo avec 1 aiguille circulaire).

and since then my first sock is well under way. It wasn't easy at first to knit with circular needles. But like everything, it's just a matter of getting the knack of it. And then, after a few rows, horror!!!, once again those horrible holes on each side. I went straight away on internet to find a solution. I found this video which explained, very easily, how to pull the yarn to close the gaps (skip to the 3rd minute for the demo with 1 circular needle).
En regardant cette vidéo, je me suis aperçue que je tricotais à l'envers!!! (Mon endroit était à l'intérieur, et pas à l'extérieur). Re-correction, et tout va mieux, mais on voit la démarcation:
As I watched this video, I realized I was knitting the wrong way around (I was inside out). Once again, a little correction, and it's all better but you can see the difference from when I've turned my work:
En regardant cette vidéo (et d'autres), j'ai également appris la méthode de tricot "continentale" qui consiste à tenir le fil de la main gauche. Ce n'est pas un geste naturel, qui demande de la pratique, mais avec cette méthode on tient les aiguilles en permanence. Avec ma méthode habituelle, je dois lâcher l'aiguille droite pour faire mon jeté, et ce n'est pas pratique du tout.
I've also learnt from this video (and others), how to knit the "continental" way. It consists of holding the yarn with your left hand. This isn't the natural way of knitting for me, and it requires some practice, but with this method you hold your needles all the time. With my usual method, I let go of my right needle to yarn over, and this isn't practical.
Au final, pour une chaussette-test, je suis plutôt contente du résultat. Mon pied est déjà à moitié chaussé, et je dois maintenant attaquer le talon (a priori, la partie la plus délicate).
La prochaine fois, promis, je vous montre ma chaussette finie!
In the end, for a test-sock, I'm happy with the result. My foot is already half covered, and I have to start on the heel now (apparently, THE hardest part).
